Join DHS Students and the Spanish Department to Make a Difference through Community Impact

Join forces with DHS students and the Spanish Department to positively impact communities in need. Participate in our home-building project that spans from February 13-17, where students will help construct homes using recycled materials. Become involved by attending our meeting on September 18 and participating in our rummage sale from October 11-14. Celebrate cultural traditions like Día de los Muertos and Cinco de Mayo with food sales in class. Make a difference in the world while appreciating Hispanic culture!

  1. DHS Students Make a Difference in the World& the Spanish Department Join Forces with APES to Make a Bigger Impact

  2. Previous Family Home (Demolished prior to our arrival so they could pour the cement floor the day before our build) The shacks are built out of whatever scrap material they can find. They leak air and water and often have dirt floors. The wet, humid, dirty, conditions are not healthy to live in.

Important Dates & Events • Meeting for all interested students and parents is Wednesday, September 18th from 7-8:30 PM in E116 • Students must participate in the rummage sale to be able to go on the home build. The rummage sale is Oct 11-14. Columbus Day weekend. • The home building trip is Feb 13-17.  President's • Day weekend

  6. Celebrate the Hispanic cultural traditions of the Day of the Dead and Cinco de Mayo by purchasing some traditional treats to be eaten in class on these days. By paying $5 your student will receive a loaf of bread and a cup of hot chocolate for the Day of the Dead (Thurs, Oct 30, or Fri, Oct 31) & celebration in class and a churro and a cup of hot chocolate for the Cinco de Mayo (Monday, May 5) celebration in class. Payments should be made by October 18th in the bookstore so we can order the proper amount of food. Treats will be delivered to their Spanish classroom on the holidays.
