A Light Year • Measure of DISTANCE!! • Distance light travels in one year through space • Light travels at a speed of 3x108m/s • If a planet is 4 light years away, it takes all light waves 4 years to get to that planet. • If it takes light 10 years to get from one star to Earth, that star is 10 light years away. • If satellite is put on a planet located 1 light year away, a radio signal would take 2 years to be sent, reflected, and returned to Earth.
