  8. Bluestone Dam • Concrete Gravity Dam • 165 feet high, 2048 feet long • 16 feet wide at top and 200 feet wide at base • The dam impounds a lake nearly 11 miles long and more than 30 miles long at flood

  9. Kanawha Valley • Approximately 150 miles from the Dam near Hinton, WV to Ohio River • Mostly narrow and steep sided • Population in excess of 300,000 people • State Capitol, Charleston • Significant electrical generation facilities

  10. Kanawha Valley • Dupont and other companies maintain large chemical manufacturing and storage facilities in the valley • Major fuel offloading and storage facilities in vicinity of Charleston.

  11. Planning Activity • Detailed response plan being developed jointly by West Virginia and FEMA Region III • Will address these key points: • Notification • Evacuation • Mass Care • Search and Rescue • HazMat
