The Rosetta spacecraft has achieved a significant milestone with the first detection of water (H2O) from Comet 67P/C-G using the Microwave Instrument for Rosetta Orbiter (MIRO), led by Principal Investigator Sam Gulkis at JPL. Additionally, the Alice UV Spectrograph, under the direction of PI Alan Stern from SwRI, has captured the first far-ultraviolet (FUV) spectrum of the comet nucleus, providing invaluable data on its surface properties and composition. These findings enhance our understanding of cometary bodies and their role in the solar system.
