  1. Dmitry Kiktev Hydrometcentre of Russia / Roshydromet Observational data for Sochi-2014 (project FROST-20 14) COSMO GM 2 Septemer 2013, Sibiu, Romania

  2. Today’s network of meteorological stations in the region of Sochi

  3. The Olympic sport venues • Each venue has 1 basic station and 1-4 supplementary sport stations

  4. Current Instrumentul Setup (AMSs and Sensors Installed): Roshydromet’s stations

  5. Current Instrumentul Setup (AMSs and Sensors Installed): IRAM’s Stationsat the sport venues Basic frequency of observations - 10-minutes; 1-minute observations - for prec intensity, visibility, cloud base, wind gusts

  6. Current Instrumentul Setup (AMSs and Sensors Installed):Roza-Khutor - Alpine Skiing Venue

  7. Current Instrumentul Setup (AMSs and Sensors Installed) : «Meteofon» stations at the towers of mobile communication Issues related: Nonstandard height; precipitation measurements

  8. Quality Control of station observations At the moment implemented only for operational data (series to be controlled) Parameters: T, humidity, wind, Pmsl Components: - Check of limits; Spatial control - for observations at 00, 03, 06 ..21 UTC; Temporal control – for 10-minute observations; QC with respect to COSMO-2.2 forecasts (works better for temperature than for humidity); Manual control

  9. QC flags are presented as a composition of several digits: - low-order (rightmost) digit – manual control; - the 2nd digit from the right – spatial control using approach by Steinaker et al, 2000; - the 3rd digit from the right – temporal control and control with respect to the model forecast; - the 4th digit from the right – reserve. Each digit can take the following values: 0 - no control (default) 1- suspicious 5 - OK 9 – rejectedExamples: e.g., 0010, 0001, 0900 etc.

  10. - Observation data are available from the FROST-2014 ftp-server. - XML-description for the station data is available at http://frost2014.meteoinfo.ru/doc.- Update period for the station observation data at the project server is 10 min- Raw data (volume files) from the Sochi Doppler radar in IRIS format are available at the project sever and updated every 10 minutes- Temperature/Humidity (HATPRO and Scintec-3000) and Wind (Scintec-3000) profilers data to be available at the project server during the Olympic winter.

  11. Snow Density Measurements During snowfalls manual snow density measurements are curried out by the party of anti-avalunch service in Krasnaya Polyana. According to AMS observations there were precipitation intensities up to 30 cm/hour at Roza-Khutor.
