From the Philadelphia Museum of Arthttp://www.philamuseum.org • Descriptive writing vividly portrays a person, place, or thing in such a way that the reader can visualize the topic and enter into the writer's experience. The best writing engages our five senses, and nothing provides as rich an opportunity for sensory engagement as art. This lesson is designed to help students recognize sensory details in works of art and incorporate these details into their writing.

  3. Directions: In class only, we will be viewing a painting and writing about it. Imagine that you have entered their painting and that the painting has come to life. As you view the painting by Antonio Ruiz, answer the following questions in your graphic organizer: • What do you see? • What sounds can you hear? • What textures or temperatures do you feel? • What do you taste? • What do you smell? • What is the mood of the painting (ex. Happy, sad) After you have answered all questions listed above, begin to write your essay. Make sure you use blue or black ink pen. When you are finished, please reread your paragraph for spelling and other errors. Please use the following for your introductory and closing sentences:Introduction: While examining the painting Bicycle Race by Antonio Ruiz I felt (put your answer to number 6).
