  2. The following is a list of problems commonly reported by college students. While some students may resolve these issues on their own, counseling may be helpful if you have ongoing concerns. Please consider those that apply to you:

  3. Relationship Problems Family problems Uncomfortable in social situations Conflict with significant other Coping with a relationship break-up

  4. Feelings Anger Worry and anxiety Feeling sad or depressed Loneliness Thoughts of suicide Guilt

  5. Personal Habits and Problems Abusing alcohol or drugs Sexual abuse or assault Body image and eating habits Perfectionism or procrastination Coping with stress and anxiety

  6. Identity and Self-Esteem Sexuality issues Values clarification Negative or self-defeating thinking Low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence Difficulty adjusting to college

  7. In order to benefit fully from counseling, the following recommendations are offered:

  8. Attend all scheduled sessions.

  9. Be specific about the concerns that led to your decision to seek counseling.

  10. Establish with your counselor desired goals and outcomes to be achieved in counseling.

  11. Discuss your progress with your counselor as you go along, and modify your goals if necessary.

  12. Participate actively, and be as open and honest as possible.

  13. Be prepared for your sessions. Complete (or at least attempt) any “homework.”

  14. Tell your counselor if you don't think you're being helped.

  15. Successful counseling is a joint process requiring your motivation and active involvement. The more actively involved you are, the more effective counseling will be for you.

  16. The Counseling Center is located in Student Services (SVC) 2124 and open 8-5:00 PM Monday through Friday. All services are confidential.
