TRADITIONAL WEDDING • The Weddings last 2 day or more • Requires one to 6 months to plan • Crossed golden rings symbolize wedding and marriage in Russian culture. • After registering their union at the registry office, the couple goes on a city tour, where the photographer takes a lot of pictures.

  3. “Горько!” [GOR’-ka] • Горько: A Russian chant that is yelled when the people want the couple to kiss. When the guess drink the alcohol they says its bitter (Горько), by shouting “Горько!”couple needs to start kissing to sweeten the drinks. They also count once both lips touch. • A connection to American life is when attending a wedding the guest grab silver ware and tap it on a glass to make it ring and signal the bride and groom to kiss.

Vykupnevesty • The groom go to the brides house • To get the bride he has to pay some soft of ransom • This can be played out as a joke of both of the sides of marriage • The groom and his crew have to deal with the neighbors, who want coins and free drinks • The neighbors solute them with coins and rice.

Types of ceremony • Church Ceremony • Wedding crowns are held above the bride and grooms head. • -THE OATH TO GOD AND TO BE FAITHFUL TO EACH OTHER IN SORROW AND JOY • IT LAST FOR UNDER 1 HOUR AND OVER 2 HOURS • YOU MAY HAVE TO STAND BECAUSE IT IS A COMMON, RESPECTFUL GESTURE. • DURING RECEPTION, SAY THE BRIDE GOES WITH THE GROOMS FRIENDS, THE GROOM WOULD HAVE TO PAY ALL THE FRIENDS TO GET THE BRIDE BACK.(A FAKE RANSOM)

Chruch • Betrothal- done to bless at the beginning of the engagement, • they hold white candles • The priest then blesses the rings and says a few words • rings are placed in one another's right hand • Then it is said they say vows and exchange rings on left hand. • This is very similar to the traditional American way of getting married.   7. crowing • Russians in traditional wedding they do a crowing. • The priest has the couple stand into the center of the church • standing on a new piece of colored fabric symbolizes their entry into a new life • The bride and groom each states that they are marrying of their own free will and that they have promised themselves to another.

Civil Ceremony • JUST GOING TO THE ZAGS AND GETTING MARRIED. • YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD TO GET MARRIED, BUT FOR THE FEMALES, THEY MUST HAVE SPECIAL PERMISSION TO GET MARRIED BEOFRE 18 AT THE AGE OF 17 YEARS OLD. • IT LAST ABOUT 15 MIN • THEY EXCHANGE RINGS AND SAY “I DO” • THE MUSIC THAT THEY WALK OUT TO IS THE MUSIC OF MENDELSSOHN “HERE COMES THE BRIDE”

  9. Bridesmaids • White was a color that was not lets just say “joyful”. White to Russian was the color of sanctity. Meaning Holy. White was not use in festivities. • Dress two: Very red • They wear clothes that look different in the meaning that they wear two different dresses. • Dress one: Very modest and simple. • Wear to the marriage serverice

  10. grOOM • IN RUSSIA THE GROOMS USUALLY WEAR A BLACK SUIT AND A WHITE SHIRT. • Very similar to the grooms here in the United States.

Progulka • Immediately after the ceremony takes place the bride and groom with some friends to a historical site to take pictures. • They often drink champagne • To the sphinx embankment on Peter Vassilevsky Island they pet the 4,000-year-old Egyptian statues and stone griffins for luck. • The Peter and Paul Cathedral. Russian couples toast with champagne and then smash their glasses against the fountain near the cathedral.  • To the New Hermitage Portico along the city’s Millionaires’ Row.  Russian brides rub the toes of the statues for luck.

  12. krazhanevesty • Another tradition that russian groom follow is called krazhanevesty • Krazhanevestyis when the groom has to watch the bride at all times because if he loses her, she can be taken by one of his friends. • He would then have to pay again some sort of ransom so get her back into his arms. It is not in a serious manner, but it does happen to some brides.
