  1. Manifest Destiny By: Nikales Joseph

  2. Rio Grande • This river was the boundary between Mexico and the U.S. • This also where the Mexican War started • After the war the U.S. had gained control over New Mexico and California. • This helped Manifest Destiny because the Gold Rush in 1849 brought more people to the Pacific Coast completing Manifest Destiny.

  3. Sutter’s Mill • Sutter’s Mill in Sacramento California • The Gold Rush began here in 1849, in which brought people to the west. • This helped Manifest Destiny because it gave people a reason to move to the west, to find gold.

  4. Battle of San Jacinto • San Jacinto River is where this battle took place • This battle gave Texas its independence. • This helped Manifest Destiny because it brought more people to the west.

  5. The Alamo • Texans lost greatly. • Despite their great lost the Texans were still fighting • The Alamo caused great rage within the Texans. • This helped Manifest Destiny because it brought more people to Texas.

  6. Fort Mandan • This fort is on the trail of Lewis and Clark. • It is where they stopped for the winter of 1804-1805 • They explored the west and told what was there. • Helping Manifest Destiny by letting other Americans know what’s out in the west.

  7. Ft. Vancouver • Where the Oregon Trail ended • This fort is by a city, Champoeg • Though they could get closer, this fort and the city of Champoeg helped people get to the Pacific Coast.

  8. Indian Territory • Cherokee Indians forced west of Mississippi • This long journey was known as the “Trail of Tears” • This trail put the Cherokees in what is now Oklahoma • This helped Manifest Destiny because the U.S. still had people (Native Americans) moving west in which the Indians didn’t move they were forced.
