Values and Attitudes in Family Planning Value: • A belief that is important to an individual. • Can be influenced by ; personal experiences religious, educational and cultural factors among others. Attitude: • A view or opinion that is formed by values and beliefs (self esteem, hope, faith, confidence)

  5. What to be emphasized • Every interaction between the client and the counselor, affects the client’s satisfaction and continuation with service. • How we communicate our own values and attitudes is an important part of our interaction with our client. • See Value clarification excercise .

Take Home Message • Value clarification makes providers be aware of their own beliefs and they can affect others both positively and negatively • The awareness helps the provider provide care to clients in a respectable and none judgmental manner. • Value clarification informs and reinforces providers professional obligations
