Sandia National Laboratories April 21, 2010 Long-term Stewardship (LTS) Caroline Byrd Program Coordinator Sandia is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company,for the United States Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.

  2. Long-term Stewardship Program LTS Program Mission: • To protect human health /environment • From hazards associated with residual contamination • At former Environmental Restoration Project sites

  3. LTS Environmental Monitoring The LTS Program conducts groundwater monitoring required by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and Department of Energy (DOE). -

  4. LTS Monitoring Activities -Sampling and data analysis at more than 50 groundwater wells -NMED personnel also sample

  5. LTS Well Network Maintenance Well maintenance, development, and replacement

  6. LTS FY 2010 Monitoring Status • Quarterly groundwater sampling –first quarter complete • CAMU monitoring –on schedule • Monitoring well network maintenance – NMED approved installation of 4 groundwater monitoring wells at the Chemical Waste Landfill. Field work begins April 2010.

Public Information Repository • DOE has always placed hardcopy regulatory deliverable documents in public reading rooms • Providing electronic documents for University of New Mexico’s Zimmerman Library website. • Will allow remote access to documents • Will ensure documents are intact, in good order • Documents included in the initial upload (May) • Documents supporting the March 2006 Class 3 Permit Modification Request • Mixed Waste Landfill Documents from 1995 to 2010
