  1. Grammar: Parts of Speech Review Let’s review four (4) basic words or “parts of speech” used in English sentences.

  2. 1. the NOUN a noun is a person, place, thing, or idea for example: a doctor a city an apple peace

  3. 2. the VERB a verb expresses existence (“to be”), occurrence, and ACTION for example: eat play ride think

  4. 3. the ADJECTIVE an adjective often helps us understand the noun for example: • what kind of house? -- a blue house • what kind of car? -- a fast car • what kind of job? -- a boring job

  5. 4. the ADVERB the adverb generally helps us understand the verb for example: how does he go? -----he goes slowly how often do they study? --they always study where are you reading? --I’m reading in the library

  6. You find the parts of speech. Find the nouns: Mrs. Kim strongly supports the new governor on his latest decision to fight crime.

  7. Here are the nouns Mrs. Kim strongly supports the new governor on his latest decision to fight crime.
