  3. Public Participation Desired • County May Utilize Existing General Plan Advisory Committees • Specific Participation and Advice From The Community Is Desired • A Consistent Statewide Program of Participation is Planned

Rural Collaboration Projects • Hawaii Rural Development Council • Tap into RDC Network & Generate Public Advice • HRDC to Employ Meeting Facilitators • Participation in APA National Conference • Focus on Rural Smart Growth Topics • Hawaii Department of Agriculture • Development of IAL Incentive Package • Office of Planning Rural Project Workshops • Issue Development/Best Practices - Low Impact Development • Statutory Review

  6. Hawaii Rural Development Council • One of 37 Certified By the USDA per 2002 Farm Bill • Incorporated in 2003 • Members Include: • Federal. State, County & Private Non-Profits • Objectives Include: • Protecting Agriculture • Promoting Affordable Housing • Sustainable Economic Development

  7. Tap Into Rural Development Council Network • Rural Development Council to Assist & Facilitate Network Discussion & Analysis • Contract for Services Effected • HRDC to Facilitate Workshops on Kauai, Maui and Hawaii • LUC to Conduct Workshops on Oahu, Lanai and Molokai

Participation in National APA Conference • Learn More About Rural Smart Growth Issues • Model Rural District Standards & Smart Growth Issues Explored • Opportunity for LUC Member and Staff to Understand Current Thinking • Gain Exposure to National Discussion of Rural Development Issues & Perspective
