During some lessons throughout this term the children will work as a tribe on their activities. Celebration – An Educational Visit to Martin Mere WWT – A Living History Celt and Roman Day. Maths - Our main focus in number this term will be on understanding, using and recalling multiplication facts. Y2’s will practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. They will learn to recognise multiples of 2, 5 and 10 and odd and even numbers up to 100.They will continue to practise and use their knowledge of place value within 2 digit numbers. Y3’s will continue to developing their understanding of multiplication and the instant recall of the 2,3,4,5,8,10 and 11 times tables. Later in the term we will also look at division and begin to investigate fractions of shapes and numbers. This term all children have been given a password (stuck in their reading diary) for the MyMaths.co.uk website. This will enable them to access extra homework activities. Look out for a letter explaining this in more details in your child’s bag. Literacy – children will continue to be given opportunity to practice and develop their joined handwriting style. The children will begin the term doing a lot of creative writing inspired by our theme. Towards the end of the term they will be doing some non-fiction writing again linked to the theme in the form of reports on events in history. Through this the Y2 children will be concentrating on the use of capital letters and full stops and also will learn to use exclamation marks and question marks. Y3’s will continue to develop their sentence construction and use of a variety of punctuation including the above and also speech marks and apostrophes for possession. Spelling lists will continue to be sent home on a Monday each week and tested on a Friday. Our outdoor role play area will be turned into a creative ‘Bard’s Den’ where the children will have the opportunity to create stories, poems and songs to be shared with others just as people did in Britain long ago. The children will be creating their own role play area inside the classroom once term has begun and they have had time to decide what they would like it to be! RE- This term we will continue our focus on Founders and Leaders, concentrating on the religion of Sikhism. We will consider what makes a good leader and learn about Sikh Guru leaders. Science – Our science work this term will link in a cross curricular way to our theme of Crafty Celts. The children will develop their scientific skills, knowledge and understanding of materials and their properties when we look at the materials the Celts had access to and how they used them. We will also shoot forward in time to 1820 to investigate how John McAdam invented a new use of a material. In addition we shall be looking at the skeletal and muscular system of humans and animals later in the term. History – The children will learn how the Celts lived. They will find out what the people were like, how they dressed, what jobs they would have done, what their housing was like and patterns they used. Children will develop their knowledge of the Celts by using a range of different practical activities. They will learn to describe events using the words BC and AD. They will also use a timeline to help them understand how long ago Celts lived and how the Iron Age fits into British History. French Year 2’s will continue to enjoy an introduction to basic phrases and vocabulary whilst Year 3 will build on their knowledge further. Art and DT – Inspired by our Crafty Celt theme, our Art and DT will be very cross curricular this term. For example: We plan to use different materials to design and make Celtic roundhouses; we will be looking in detail at Celtic patterns and designs and using these to inspire our own patterns in our sketch books; whilst learning about Celtic warriors we plan to make Celtic shields, chariots and use red cabbage to mix our own war paint; whilst learning about Celtic life we will have opportunity to prepare vegetables and cook a Celtic stew. PE – Football and Hockey Skills (both outside ,weather permitting) will continue to be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Music - Mrs Bird will continue to teach the children Music on Fridays.
