An LC graduate has successfully: • met standard on the High School Proficiency Exam • completed the Culminating Project • completed a 5-Year Plan/Portfolio • earned a minimum of 22 credits • gained confidence and made well-educated choices
High School Proficiency Exam • Spring of 10th grade • Must meet standard in: • Reading • Writing • Math • Science (not yet required)
The Culminating Project Consists of: • Paper • Project • Portfolio • Presentation • Completed during the senior year
5 Year Plan/Portfolio • Started in 8th grade and continues through graduation • Helps students to plan for high school and beyond • Portfolio is online through the WOIS system - can be accessed even after graduation
It takes a little more to be a Tiger! • 8th grade performance has a great effect on how well you will do in high school • High school is a new beginning – you determine your success! • Every class counts in high school; your grades and attitude matter! • Finish strong so you can start strong as a Tiger!
CORE • Invitation-only program for identified freshmen • Entry based on middle school assessments, grades, and attendance • Parent and student make the final decision to join • School-within-the-School model • Smaller class sizes • Advisory program (earn .25 CTE credit/semester) • Classes: English, Science, Algebra, & Math lab • World History is deferred to 10th grade
CORE Data • This is our 2nd year for the CORE • Compared to control group (non-CORE): • Earning more credits • Higher GPA • Higher attendance • Lower major discipline entries • CORE teachers were named Spokane Schools 2010 Distinguished Educator Team

Honors/Pre-AP • 9th Honors Courses: • English (required summer assignment – online) • World History • Geometry (pre-requisite: Algebra) • Science (Chemistry & Physics) or MESA Science • NO application required • We encourage students to challenge themselves with these courses • Students can take any or all of the honors classes
Registration Form • Full-year registration • One elective choice, but need to provide multiple alternatives • Middle schools have handed these out – or available online
9th Course Guide • Short descriptions of all 9th grade classes • Available online • Full LC course guide on the web as well
Special Transfer Requests • In-district: due by March 31st – must be turned in to your home high school • Out-of-district: start with your home district to get a release, then turn it in to the SPS District office • In April, high schools will notify you if your request is approved.
