  4. Morning: Open Networking Just like Hiatt’s on-campus careers fairs Employers host tables and students get in line Afternoon: Interviews (many are scheduled day of CIC) Post-CIC There are so many ways to use these programs!!! CIC Format

These are unique events just for Brandeis students to meet with recruiters and or alumni to learn about… Fields and industries, Organizations, and/or Jobs/Internships Standard Agenda Brief tour (you get to see an organization first-hand) Overview of organization (presenter or panel), and/or Information about positions and how to apply Post-Employer Site Visits There are so many ways to use these programs!!! Employer Site Visits

These are programs for students to meet alumni who have volunteered to share information These are NOT recruiting events Do NOT ask for a job or internships DO make sure to present yourself professionally and to state your goals Post-Networking Event There are so many ways to use these programs!!! Alumni Networking

  7. Question 1: Why are you in the room? Question 2: Who do you want to meet and/or who are you going to meet? Question 3: What do you want them to remember? Question 4: What can you do next? How to Standout and Make an Impression

  8. Dress professionally Have a nice portfolio with copies of your resume Ensure you have proper hygiene Shower, shave, brushed teeth, comb hair, etc. Do NOT wear perfume or cologne Work the event by yourself and not in a group with friends Basic Tips The first full second.

  9. 30 second introduction Name Class year Major/Minor Goals “Hi my name is [First Name], I am a junior at Brandeis University majoring in psychology and fine arts. I am eager to learn more about your organization and trends in the advertising industry in New York.” Self-introduction. The next 30 seconds.

  10. Think about experiences that demonstrate your skills, and prepare to share them in a concise way. One way to do that is to use the following STAR outline: Situation- Where were you working? What was the assignment? Task- What was your responsibility? What was your job or role? Action- What did you do? Result- What was the outcome? ConversationPreparation Think of your top 3 strengths (i.e., skills, knowledge areas, personal attributes) and create 3 STAR stories that together demonstrate / prove that you have these strengths.

S: Digital Media Internship at Universal McCann T: To assist Media Planner with creating a digital marketing campaign for Kohl's account A: - Researched demographic that shops at Kohl's - Helped Organize Meeting with Kohl's Reps to find out their needs and wants - Assisted with creating new FB and Twitter pages for Kohl's - Helped Digital Media Planner plan holiday promotional event in Times Square to promote Kohl's holiday sales R: Kohl's Representatives were extremely happy with the new marketing campaign and their business increased by 35% during busy holiday season. Follow-up your conversations with a thank you e-mail See Hiatt’s thank you letter guide online www.brandeis.edu/hiatt/students/careertools/thankyounotes.html Note: The “thank you” is an opportunity to express your appreciation for sharing their time and knowledge, to reinforce your professionalism and goals, and to have them join your professional network (i.e., connecting directly on LinkedIn, scheduling a follow-up discussions, etc.). Use these experiences, conversations, contacts and events to update your self-marketing (i.e., cover letters, self-introduction, etc.) and to become more aware of future job/internship opportunities and contacts.
