Criteria and Cut-Off • Allocation of subject combination is based on merit • To be eligible for consideration for the combination of their choice, students must satisfy the minimum criteria • Criteria is the school’s way to gauge aptitude and suitability of student to take subjects

  15. 2016 3E Subject Combinations ABILITY • Ability to handle multiple subjects • Quality GCE O level grades open doors - Prospects for JC/Poly ultimately depend on quality of results (e.g. L1R5 / L1B4) • Gauge ability via Sec 2 results

Important Information • Options will be done online on the school portal • Students will be briefed by April • Options are to be submitted within 3 working days after release of results • Students will be informed of their allocation & class by November • Only combinations with at least 10-15 students will be confirmed

Important Information • 3E students are allowed to make up to 5 choices • 3E Subject Combination Target Setting Planner will be given out to your child / ward at their briefing • Use the Target Setting Subject Planner and help your child make the most realistic and best choice for him • Ensure your child works hard towards his choice combination • Please choose wisely – your child will not automatically get 2nd choice if he puts down a 1st choice he does not qualify for

  20. 2016 3E Subject Combinations 4. Important Information • If your child does not qualify for any of the choices he has put down, the school will give him the combination that is best for him based on a) his results (ability), and b) teachers’ recommendation

  27. 2016 Science Curriculum UPPER SECONDARY SCIENCES • The study of Physics and Chemistry is more conceptual in nature vs • The study of Biology requires a higher level of competency in the English Language as well as an eye for details

  28. 2016 Science Curriculum EXPRESS STREAM –PURE SCIENCES • Syllabus is designed to place less emphasis on factual material but greater emphasis on the understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles Science Practical Assessment (SPA) • Assesses a student’s competence in practical skills over a period of 2 years

  29. 2016 Science Curriculum EXPRESS STREAM –COMBINED SCIENCES • A choice of 2 combinations in one subject: 1. Physics / Chemistry 2. Biology / Chemistry • Syllabus of each component is less in terms of depth and breadth compared to Pure Sciences • O Level Examinations: theory papers (85%) and practical test (15%)

  43. 2016 English Literature Curriculum In essence, we believe that English Literature will develop our students to: • Be able to critically and independently read, analyse and appreciate literary texts. • Be able to develop and effectively communicate personal and critical responses to the text.

  45. 2016 English Literature Curriculum IMPORTANCE For English Language • Strong focus on literary texts in the new EL syllabus For Junior College • To qualify for the Arts Stream, Literature is considered as one of the Humanities subjects that can be considered. For Polytechnics • Courses such as Advertising and Public Relations and Mass Communication require good grades in language and Humanities subjects. • Literature will therefore be an added advantage.
