What is the Climate Savers Computing Initiative? • Nationwide program for Universities and Colleges created by leading IT companies and the World Wildlife Fund in 2007. • In March 2009, CSCI collaborated with the US EPA – Energy Star Program to launch the CSCI at higher education institutions.

  3. Climate Savers Computing Initiative Goal • Reduce Energy Use • Save Money • Practice sustainability • Response to Climate Change • Demonstrate Eco-Leadership in the Community • Gain National Recognition among peers • Foster Student Involvement • Build a campus culture of sustainability

Physical Plant CSCI Pilot • 151 PCs • Networked induced power savings • Energy saving settings • 15 min – turn off monitor • 30 min – turn off hard drives • 1 hr – system standby • 2 hrs – hibernate • Physical plant projected savings $1,800 – 2,200/yr • 81 computers were already using some level of power saving settings
