  1. How To Study The BibleLesson 2 Observing a Verse 1 John 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

  2. Questions to ask the text: Who is the author? John Who is he addressing? Important Terms or Concept? Main Verbs, and tenses? Do we need to define terms? Do we need to identify any persons or places? What do we know already about the persons or places? Do we see any cause and affect relationships? How does the test apply to my personal life? Is there anything I may want to study later?

  3. Who is the author? John  one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to The Bible. He was the son of Zebedeebrother of James,. Peter, James and John were the only witnesses of the raising of Daughter of Jairus. [Mk 5:37] All three witnessed theTransfiguration,[Mt 17:1]same three witnessed the Agony in Gethsemane more closely than the other Apostles did. [Mt 26:37] Mathew 20: 20-23 (their mother)

  8. How does the test apply to my personal life? Immoral living provokes me to sin Is there anything I may want to study later? Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one

  9. Genesis 4:1-16 4And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord. 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance (tolerate, put up with) fell. 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. Look at NIV 9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? 15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.

  10. Determine why this verse is dropped into the center of a chapter focusing of God’s love? So that believers don’t be deceived! 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

  11. Examples in my life where there was a contrast (distinction, difference) between righteousness and evil. Was I ever like Cain? Was I ever like Abel?
