  2. Modern Art • What is modern art? • Period of art made from 1870s to now • It is split up into different sections or periods • Art that has meaning. Has a purpose. • Usually way different then art that was made previously. Artists who felt experimentation was important to their themes and ideas. • How does modern art communicate ideas? • Using current themes or historical events

Begins with Vincent Van Gogh • Who was Vincent Van gogh? • Artist from the Netherlands (dutch) but died in France b. 1853 D 1890 • Post Impressionist style artist • Felt art communicated ideas through color • How was his style different then that of the previous style? • Previous style was Realism (1860)

  7. Modern art • Currently there are many artists who are making art out of recycled or repurposed materials. We are going to look at artists who use cardboard…lets discuss why
