  2. Based upon 10 Gbit/s core • Presents Ethernet at exit points: • Many 100 Mbit/s for long periods times • Few 1 Gbit/s for long periods • in practice pseudo-persistent for now • Cross bridges when (if) we come to them • If needed, and for shorter periods, access to full 10 Gbit/s possible

  3. HEP Connectivity Requests

  4. Service Challenge Connection Requests

  5. ESLEA Collaboration Connection Requests

  6. Other Connection Requests

  7. HEP Provision Tier1 Tier0 • Today: • 2 x 1 Gbit/s in place for RAL  CERN Switched through Amsterdam • 500(290) Mbit/s RAL  Lancaster • 1-Jan 2006 • 6 x 1 Gbit/s • Feb 2007 • Requested 10 Gbit/s

  8. HEP Provision Fermilab  UCL • 1 Gbit/s for foreseeable future

  9. HEP Provision Tier1  Tier2 and Tier2 to elsewhere • Today we have said to UKERNA: • ~ 1 Gbit/s between WITHIN a Tier-2 (i.e. between Tier-2 Institutes) • ~ 1 Gbit/s aggregate from EACH Tier2 to Tier1 (note: this means 4 Gbit/s into RAL !!!) • Next (up to 2007): • Consolidate existing differentiated Tier2 estimations by • Roget Jones & Barney Garret to revisit existing papers • Visit Tier2 sites • Visit experiment reps • Default is that Tier2 uses production network for now until ~2007 • If clear case for dedicated connections for a Tier2 before end 2006 then we WILL ask for it. • BUT to do this is will be essential that someone at Tier2 GUARANTEES to use the connection • we cannot ask and not use. • We cannot do this just based upon generalities • Post 2007 – see next slide

  10. SuperJANET5 and Geant-2 • Geant-2 • Already committed to provided dedicated capacity across GN2 • NRENS will be offered a 10+10 Service (10 IP + 10 GE) • They plan to do this for Tier1 to CERN • SuperJANET5: • Will be fully live by end 2006 • Will incorporate pervasive dedicated circuits • Who pays ? work ongoing ? • Messages for UK sites: • Dedicated circuits can be provided • If your site thinks it needs one we should ask for it – but only if you know you will use it • We must present authoritative documents to UKERNA in advance of SJ5 as and when we know what we need.
