  3. Victims of Prejudice--TKM • TKM: • Tom Robinson • Boo Radley • Atticus—Rejected by Maycomb County for defending Tom. • Mr. Dolphus Raymond –perpetuates the lie that he drinks whiskey out of a paper bag because no one in Maycomb could accept that he married a black woman because he loves her.

  4. Victims of Prejudice--GE • Pip. • Joe Gargery. • Pip’s convict. • Biddy. • Estella. --Pip puts her on a pedestal. She is highest example of a woman that he can think of. He strives to be worthy of her without ever thinking about who she is as an individual. • Miss Havisham.

Essay Question #3: Great Expectations Pip’s Character Development. • Thesis Ideas: Think about who he is at the beginning of the novel, and who he becomes by the end of Stage One. • Character Influences—Estella: • Makes Pip want to become a gentleman and educated. Also responsible for his increasing snobbery. • Discourages Pip from being “common.” Miss Havisham: -- Makes Pip feel badly about himself. --Tells Estella to “break their hearts and have no mercy.” --Pip’s gaining a fortune. He assumes that she is responsible and therefore intends for him to end up with Estella. His “Great Expectations”: • His money will enable him to look down on others.
