France is among top international markets for The Beacon Council Target industries include: Aviation, Biomedical, Fashion-Lifestyle and International Commerce Multinationals from France in Miami-Dade County (MDCTY): Airbus, Barfield, LVMH, Danone, Longchamp, Dedienne, PAUL, CMA/CGM, plus numerous others

    4. 1999 (Paris) First mission conducted to the Paris Air Show / Bourget. Beacon Council joined MIA’s Booth; several County Commissioners and County Staff participated in the mission. 2001 (Paris) Visit to the Paris Air Show; Beacon Council joined MIA’s Booth; Several County Commissioners and County Staff participated in the mission.

    5. 2003 (Paris – Marseille – Lyon) First Beacon Council Booth at the Bourget; Follow-up meetings with active prospects and projects; Delegation members included: State Senator, Consul General of France, Enterprise Florida Representatives and County Staff MIA material was distributed at The Beacon Council Booth; MIA representatives did not attend the Bourget Special Business Seminar was held with the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Paris (CCIP) on why to do business in Miami-Dade County

    6. 2005 (Paris-Orleans-Lyon-Marseille & Nice) • Beacon Council & MIA Booth within EFI Pavilion at Bourget; Business Programs were held in all cities; Delegates included: State Senator, County Commissioner, Consul General of France in Miami & County Staff

    7. 2007 (Paris) • Beacon Council & MIA Booth within EFI Pavilion at Bourget; Delegates included: County Commissioner, University of Miami, Fenjves (UM), World Trade Center of Miami, Space Florida and other BC members • Joint Brochure on Aviation Industry in MDCTY distributed to key contacts • Contact established with French Foreign Trade Advisors, MOU signed with Paris Economic Development Agency • Special Business Program planned to take place with GIFAS on Miami-Dade County: program was later cancelled due to directive from GIFAS to not highlight any one particular location

    8. May 2008 (Paris) • Follow-up Mission conducted to Paris, per BOD directive; meetings held with prospects and projects established at recent Bourget missions and outreach efforts. • Meeting with Mr. Louis Le Portz, Chairman, Paris Air Show (GIFAS), preliminary discussion about Aviation Industry in Miami-Dade County • At his request, a Special Report on the Aviation Industry in Miami-Dade County was prepared. Copies were circulated to all County Commissioners, Beacon Council Members and collaborators, including MIA and AA

October 2008 (Paris) • Follow-up Mission conducted, resulting from private invitation from GIFAS for The Beacon Council to participate in its Centenary (100th Year) Anniversary Business Programs • The Beacon Council was the only EDO invited to participate in private and senior business programs in Paris, organized by GIFAS • Private Tour of GIFAS facilities, including lead programmatic and logistical planning and support room • GIFAS offered to have representative from MDCTY spend time observing and learning from planning process of the Bourget • The Special Report on the Aviation Industry was distributed to all GIFAS members • Launch of Miami: Where Worlds Meet Campaign in Paris with GMCVB; Special Business Program with The Miami Heat organized

    10. October 2008 – April 2009 • Close contact with GIFAS and Mr. Le Portz was established and maintained. During Mr. Le Portz’ visit to Miami in April 2009, a private briefing, including MIA officials (Miguel Southwell and Sunil Harman) took place. • Frank Nero met Marion Blakey, Chairman, Aerospace Industries Association at private business seminar; follow-up ensued June 2009 (Paris and Nice) • Beacon Council and MIA shared booth at Bourget, within EFI Pavilion • Private meetings with top Aviation companies at the Bourget, who could be potential partners took place • Discussions concerning a Miami Air Show took place; all comments were positive • Key Business Program took place at France-Ameriques on Miami: Why to do Business in Miami. Panelists included Barfield Representative from Aviation Industry

    11. NEXT STEPS: • Contract Louis Le Portz (Former Chairman of the Bourget) to serve as an advisor/consultant on feasibility and initial organization as well as launch of Miami: Paris Air Show • Further define the possibility of Miami Air Show • Engage key, local partners, such as Homestead Air Force Base, MDAD, Aerospace Industries Assocation SIMILARITIES BETWEEN MIAMI AND PARIS • Both locations are attractive business and leisure destinations • Facilities in Homestead are ideal for Air Show effort • Need of Air Show for region of Latin America and Caribbean • International Community, sustained by multinational companies active in the Aviation and Aerospace Industries

    12. KUDOS • Special thanks to Sunil Harman who has prepared an excellent preliminary feasibility study and was a true asset in our June 2009 mission to the Paris. His insight was on target, complemented our promotion efforts and well represented MDAD and MIA.
