  3. CREATIVE WANDERINGS: DAY 1 • One of the town’s biggest events is the Cedar Key Arts Festival (www.cedarkeyartsfestival.com) which is held every April. (Saturday & Sunday, April 12-13, 2008 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM ) • One thing that people are mostly drawn about Cedar Key is its placid beauty and the pace. That is because Cedar Key only has about 650 residents.

  4. DAY 1 • Located on Second Street, you will find the town’s main drag paralleling the waterfront, and that’s where you’ll find seascape paintings, and even hand – woven socks at the Cedar Keyhole art co-operative (352-543-5801, www.cedarkeyhole.com) (10 am to 5 pm Daily )

  5. DAY 1 • You can also stroll over to Natural Experience (352-543-9933) for fine photography and wood sculpture.

DAY 2St. Petersburg • If your looking for good places to start and see a variety of works, you could always visit the Arts Center (727-822-7872, www.artscenter.org) and the Florida Craftsman (727-821-7391, www.floridacraftsmen.org) • For some larger than life names, visit the Salvador Dali Museum (727-823-3767, www.salvadordalimuseum.org), on the south end of downtown, and the Museum of Fine Arts (727-896-2667, www.fine-arts.org)

  9. DAY 2 • And if you’re looking for a more industrial area, west of I-275, the St. Petersburg Clay Company (727-896-2529, www.stpeteclay.com) is housed in the Historic Seaboard Train Station. It is considered the largest working clay art studio and gallery in the Southeast U.S.

DAY 2 • Everywhere you go in the bordering Gulfport, you cannot take more than a few steps without running into an art gallery. • If you are interested in going there, you can take the 22nd Avenue South exit off 275 and heading west. Turn left onto Gulf Boulevard, which takes you into the core of the arts district.

  13. DAY 3 • By the Sunshine Skyway Bridge from Gulfport, you will be sure to find a rainbow of artist’ collages in Bradenton’s Villages of the Arts (941-747-8056, www.artistsguildofmanatee.org). There you will find more than 30 galleries; studios and funky shops brighten 11 blocks of this downtown neighborhood. • To get here, take the State Road 64 from I-75.

  14. DAY 3KEEP IN MIND • Keep in mind that most galleries and studios are only open Friday and Saturdays. • The village is at its best during Art Walks, held the first weekend of every month.

DAY 4 • Near Bradenton, Sarasota’s relaxed Towles Court Artist Colony (www.towlescourt.com) It was originally part of a 1920’s residential community, and was resorted into wood-frame homes and now holds up to 30 galleries and studios connected by oak-shaped footpaths lined with sculpture and tropical plants. • Looks can be deceiving, because despite the old exteriors, inside you will find many galleries that have polished pine floors, track lighting and high- end contemporary art.

  18. DAY 4 • To get there, take Fruitville Road west off I-75. Turn south onto Highway 301, then right onto Adams Street. • And while your there, be sure to visit the expansive John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art (941-359-5700, www.ringling.org/museum_art.asp). It has European paintings, including a world-renowned collection of Peter Paul Rubens, Cypriot antiquities, Asian art and American paintings.
