A accountant, actuary, apiarist, airline pilot, actor, advertising, advocate, aeronautical engineer, aeronautical information service clerk, aerospace industry trades, agricultural economist, agricultural engineer, agronomist, air traffic controller, animal scientist, anthropologist, aquatic scientist, archeologist, architect, archivist, area manager, artist, art editor, assayer and sampler, astronomer, attorney, auctioneer, auditor.   5. There are millions of careers out there… • I can’t know all of them. • Some careers don’t exist yet! • I can’t tell your daughter what she wants to do. It is up to your daughter to decide what she wants to do and find the institution that will best suit her. Key to finding the right career is that she does something she enjoys… this is involves a process, not a ‘decision’. L. Hill 23 Jun 13

  6. C.V. Building • IGCSE results, Work Experience, Extra-curricular Activities- first building blocks of their C.V.’s. BUT ‘Social Media’ C.V.’s will be how your daughters’ advertise themselves. I watch people interact, learn what their positions are, who their best friends on Twitter are..from that you can get a pretty good picture 2 The Web is your CV and social networks are your references.1 L.   11. Lower Sixth Year • Mock examinations • ALL girls sit professional examinations in each of their subjects at the end of L6 • They will be given exam leave ONLY for the day they write. They must attend lessons on days when they do not have exams. • ANY other absences must be accompanied by a doctors note for Cambridge. • THEY MUST PASS THESE EXAMS TO CONTINUE ONTO THE U6 A2 COURSE L.   14. Careers Lectures • Set of compulsory lectures designed to give your daughter an overview of the application process • Guidance on application timing and requirements • BUT it is up to you and your daughter to research the individual institutions L. Hill 23 Jun 13

Rough Application Deadlines • This is only a guide- each institution has it’s own deadline. • Zimbabwe- most universities only accept applications after the results are out. • South Africa- certain courses are as early as June, most are Sept. NBT Test. • Australia- ideally apply by August, Sept. ISAT Test. L. Hill 23 Jun 13

  16. Rough Application Deadlines • UK- applications open June but not submitted until Sept. 15th Oct deadline for Oxbridge and medical courses. For other courses International students need only apply by 30th June the following year, however, if places are limited they may have already been allocated. I would suggest meeting the UK deadline of 15th Jan. Buzzword. • US- early decision is around October but most range from end November although most colleges are Dec/ Jan. L. Hill 23 Jun 13

Application process • Application forms are available from each university and often are available on-line. • If references are required, we need approximately 2 weeks notice AND we must courier/ email these directly to the institution. • Transcripts are required for the US and also take 2/3 weeks. • Predictions also need to be sent directly to the college by courier/ email and CANNOT be made until after the mock examinations. For those planning to leave this year • AS designed to give the girls options. • They are very important in the application process. • Ensure that you are making a positive career choice. • You must be very confident that your daughter has the maturity and academic and emotional confidence to leave home/ the country. • And also that you are emotionally ready!! Leaving after AS levels • The girls must continue with ALL their lessons at school until their last examination. • Ensure that you have researched your options carefully- especially PLAN B. • If your daughter is not accepted into University for some reason, we are unable to take her back into school.
