WHAT IS MATRICULATION? • A specific set of services that is dedicated to providing the student with access to higher education and the professional assistance to help them assure their success in their courses and programs. • It is not an EVENT . . . It is a PROCESS that involves the ENTIRE COLLEGE.

Frequently Requested A & R Services • Add/Drop classes • Update Student Records (Name, Address, Phone Number) • Obtain critical deadlines • Assistance with WebSTAR (Pin Number, Add/Drop Classes) • Request transcripts • Student enrollment verifications • Resolve residency requirements • Apply for Credit/No Credit grading option • Resolve registration problems

  10. AB 540 • On October 12, 2001, Governor Davis signed into law Assembly Bill 540 (Stats. 2001, ch. 814) that added a new section 68130.5 to the California Education Code. Section 68130.5 created a new exemption from the payment of nonresident tuition for certain nonresident students who have attended high school in California and received a high school diploma or its equivalent. • To be eligible for the exemption, a student must have the following: (1) Attended high school in California for three or more years; (2) Graduated from a California high school or attained the equivalent of such graduation (3) Complete the non-resident exemption request form. Form is available in both Spanish and English.

  12. What are the Types of Aid Available? BOGW: Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver • For eligible California residents, the BOGW permits enrollment fees to be waived. Students may receive a waiver for any number of units, with no minimum. 60% of Oxnard College students receive BOGW. FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid • Federal student aid covers school expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation. This aid can also help students pay for a computer and dependent childcare expenses.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards (SAP) Federal regulations require the Financial Aid Office to establish, publish and apply standards to monitor student’s progress towards completion of their certificate or degree program. A student’s academic performance must meet the SAP standards below. Qualitative standard: • Represented by grade point average (GPA). Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to remain eligible for aid. Quantitative standard: • First, students must complete their degree or certificate program within a maximum timeframe, which may vary according to the student’s status and program. • Second, students must successfully complete a required percentage of the credits they attempt. This component is referred to as the credit completion ratio. (70% at Oxnard College)

  14. Assistance Available Workshops • Held every Friday (Thursday during summer). The financial aid staff assists students with completion of the FAFSA application on-line. Workshops are held in English and Spanish Other • Student Information Center-LRC 1 • EOPS

Goal of Counseling : To help students pursue their educational goals Practical Approach • Students meet with a counselor • Discuss educational goals • Review assessment results for Math, English and Reading • Review previous coursework • Discuss family and work situation • Define need for developmental coursework based on assessment result and all of the above • Provide support, encouragement and skills needed to explore opportunities

Mission • To combine workforce preparation efforts with intensive student services to assist students to transition from public assistance to economic self-sufficiency, • To assist students in developing and achieving their educational and career goals. • To deliver an array of highly effective and efficient job training skills that enable students to complete their educational goals, find meaningful employment and successfully transition into the workforce. • CalWORKS goal is employment.

College CalWORKS INTERNSHIPS(paid and unpaid) • Provides opportunities for college departments to provide work opportunities for students • Provides experiences for students to achieve their training goals, job skills needed • Provides feedback for improvement thru progress reports and evaluations. • Helps CalWORKS students with their career decision making process. • Allows them to “test the waters” to see what a field is really about. • Enhances their skills and teaches them about the workplace. • Provides them networking contacts for future part-time or full-time jobs.

Goal • The EAC goal is to provide students with the support and accommodations that will lead to an enjoyable and successful educational experience on our campus • Oxnard College EAC provides a variety of services geared towards providing qualified students with disabilities equal access to the educational process. • Services and accommodations are provided based on individual need after consultation with program staff.

  39. EOPS Mission Enable students affected by language, social, and economic handicaps to achieve their educational objective and goals; including, but not limited to, obtaining job skills, occupational certificates, or associate degrees, and transferring to four-year institutions.

California Education Code: 69640 - 69656 Title 5: 56200 - 56292 • Mandated Service: • Recruitment, Outreach and College Registration -increase number of students affected by language, social and economic disadvantages (sect 56232) • Counseling and Retention-increase number of students who successfully complete their educational objectives (sect 56236) • Transition (sect 56240)-to four year institutions and/or employment • Improve Delivery of Programs and services to the disadvantaged

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) • As a supplemental component of EOPS, CARE provides educational support services designed for the academically underprepared, low income, single parent population on public assistance. • Purpose is to strengthen the retention, persistence, graduation and transfer rates of these individuals.
