  2. Overview • Summary of the Problem • Project Objectives • Measures of Success • Specific Deliverables • Alternatives to Consider • Project Approach • Project Plan • Impact of ETM Coursework

  3. Problem Summary • Certification program denied by Planning Board • ETM title implies ‘engineering’, not ‘management’ • Opportunity • Prove there is value • ETM title is sufficient to describe a management program

  4. Project Objectives • To conduct research that will: • Provide data necessary to analyze the value of an ETM certificate • Be a motivation for the board to implement the program

  5. Measures of the Problem • Increase enrollment for the ETM Master’s program • Currently 160 students enrolled • Estimate 30+ to enroll in certification program • Increase student satisfaction by providing an alternative to pursuing a degree.

  6. Specific Deliverables • A process for evaluating the image of the ETM program • A review of the findings from the research

  7. Alternatives to Consider • Research existing studies • Technology: networking capabilities such as library and Internet searches. • Feasibility: High due to the ability to benefit from prior research. • Biases: Other organizations will have data particular to their own image.

  8. Alternatives (cont.) • Develop and distribute a survey • Technology: Website development software to create an online form that one can submit via the Internet • Feasibility: High due to ease of use and quick response time • Biases: Selected participants may have bias towards the university or individuals in the ETM program.

  9. Project Approach • Planning • Evaluate Alternatives • Data Gathering • Conduct research of previous studies • Develop survey questions • Form a list of reliable participants=

  10. Project Approach (cont.) • Execution • Distribute survey • Organize and analyze responses • Conclusion • Develop a post-research review • Present to the ETM committee

  11. Project Plan

  12. ETM Course Impact • Performance Measurement Systems • Ability to design and evaluate survey question effectively • Fowler, Floyd Jr., Improving Survey Questions, Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Pub, 1995. • Problem Solving and Decision Making • Ability to conduct a decision analysis • Kepner, Charles & Benjamin Tregoe, The New Rational Manager, Princeton, NJ: Kepner-Tregoe, Inc., 1997.
