In this session you’ll learn: • Interesting things about others in the program. • What your personality “color” is. • What your dominate character traits are. • How other's may see you. • How you most likely see yourself. • What you're likely to do during a "melt down". • Careers that best fit your interests, skills and unique abilities. • Which personal characteristics to “keep” and which to “change” – to reach career goals.

  4. Introductions • Their name • How long have they • lived in SC county? • How do they spend • their time? • What are their plans • after high school? • Why are they here • today?

Overall Roadmap Outcomes • Identify personal interests, skills, abilities, values & strengths • Identify industries & careers that best match interests, skills, abilities, values & strengths • Prepare for a job; resume, cover letter, and interview • Set goals; career and financial • Participate in a job-shadow & internship

  6. Who am I? Work the plan. What do I want? Develop a plan. What am I willing to do?

TRUE COLORS • Learning more about yourself and others. • No right or wrong responses. • Most people are not just one color but a combination. • This is a way for us to understand how people are similar and different from each other. • All “color” personalities have positive traits. • Learning about ourselves helps in making decisions about future plans.

Group Project - 15 minutes Outcome is to discuss and design a poster that represents your group for presentation to the rest of the participants…it may include things like: • Your likes and dislikes • Things that bug you and stress you out • How you like or don’t like to spend your time • Your favorite or least favorite kind of person – (descriptions only – no names) • Favorite school subject • Jobs you are interested in researching • Nightmare jobs

BLUE TRAITS • Key Characteristics: • Mediators • Optimistic • Caretakers • Passionate • Peacemakers • True romantics • Cause oriented • Works to change things • Needs to feel special • How to identify BLUE: • Always has a kind word • Enjoy symbols of romance • Strong sense of spirituality • Sensitive to needs of others • Peace, Harmony, Relationship • Motivates and encourages others • Cooperative rather than competitive

GREEN TRAITS • Key Characteristics: • “Should be able to” • Ask “Why” • Intellectual • Idea people • Very complex • Perfectionists • Standard setters • Visionaries, futurists • How to identify GREEN: • Can never know enough • Cool, calm and collected • Work is play—play is work • Often not in the mainstream • Abstract, conceptual, global • Need independence and private time • Explores all facets before making decisions • Knows how to spell and pronounce “big” words • Approach relationships in a “logical” manner

ORANGETRAITS • Key Characteristics: • Playful • Energetic • Charming • A risk taker • “Just do it” • Tests limits • Quick witted • “Let’s make a deal” • Stimulates the economy • How to identify Orange: • Likes action and excitement • Impulsive and spontaneous • Most productive in informal environments • Likes competition and tangible rewards • Pushes the boundaries • Visual and kinesthetic • High need for mobility • Natural entertainer

GOLD TRAITS • How to identify GOLD: • Helpful and trustworthy • Conservative and stable • “Should” and “Should not's” • Strives for a sense of security • Punctual, predictable, precise • Value order and the status quo • Duty, loyalty, useful • There is a right way to do everything • Tends to be left-brained • Strong belief in rules • Most comfortable with a formal environment • Key Characteristics: • “Be Prepared” • Loves to plan • Detailed oriented • Service oriented • Values family traditions • Responsible

  21. Green…having a BAD DAY: • Indecisiveness • Refusal to comply or cooperate • Extreme aloofness and withdrawal • Snobbish, put-down remarks, and sarcasm • Refusal to communicate, the silent treatment • Perfectionism due to severe performance anxiety • Highly critical toward yourself and others

  22. Orange…having a BAD DAY: • Rudeness and defiance • Breaking the rules intentionally • Running away and dropping out • Use of stimulants • Acting out boisterously • Lying and cheating • Physical aggressiveness

  23. Gold…having a BAD DAY • Complaining and self-pity • Anxiety and worry • Depression and fatigue • Psychosomatic problems • Malicious judgments about yourself or others • Herd mentality exhibited in blind following the leader • Authoritarianism and phobic reactions
