  3. Luke 8:22 ¶ Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side of the lake." And they launched out. 23. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. Part 7 – Miracle on the Sea

  4. 24. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 But He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, "Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!" Part 7 – Miracle on the Sea

  6. A Boat The Church • A beautiful emblem of the church • Church is often compared to a ship • We speak of the Ship of Zion

  7. A Storm Troubles Persecution, worldliness, false doctrine Storm is inevitable 2 Tim. 3:12 “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” 2 Tim. 2:3 “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

  8. A Storm Troubles “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” Jas.1:12 “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth,” 1 Pet.1:7

  9. Distress Fear Panic - about to die !!! Fear can be predictive – Job. 3:25 Fear often paralyzes a person One talent man - Mt. 25:14-30 Rich young ruler - Mt. 19:16-22 Bad habits - fear of not being accepted

  10. Distress Fear Fear keeps some from obeying gospel Ridicule Kinfolk turn against Cannot be faithful Antidote is Faith “where is your faith” “And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” 1 Jn.5:4b

  11. Voice Compassion Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Heb. 4:16 “find grace to help in time of need.” We need not fear when Jesus is with us !

  12. A Calm Peace “peace be still” “peace that surpasses all understanding” Disciples should have had faith When Jesus says something is going to happen it does. Jesus was with them

A Calm Peace We should put perfect trust in Jesus Obey the gospel - Heb. 5:9 Faithful in worship - Heb. 10:25 Life of sacrifice - Rom. 12:1-2 Trust in Jesus will support us in death Ps. 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

  15. Do we believe ? Promised eternal life Promised eternal torment Promised to answer prayer Tells us that he loves us

  16. And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, "Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!"
