Partnership : • Adult Basic Education: • Carver-Scott Educational Cooperative • Adult Academic Program at Robbinsdale Area Schools • South Hennepin Adult Programs in Education • Adult Options in Education • Osseo Area Schools • Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU): • Hennepin Technical College (HTC-Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie campus) • Community-Based Organization: • HIRED, a non-profit workforce development organization • (St. Louis Park, Brooklyn Park, West Bloomington) • Employers: • HIRED has an established health care employer advisory group • ABE Partners bring a number of employer relationships • HTC has established industry advisory boards for all health career programs • Workforce Service Area: • Hennepin-Carver Workforce Investment Board

A partnership to Assist • Underprepared adults with access to health care careers • Bridge II Curriculum – offered a 5 ABE sites • Introduction to Healthcare Careers • Nursing Assistant Preparation • Medical Terminology • Integrated Instruction – offered at HTC – 2 locations. • Certified Nursing Assistant

A partnership to Assist • HIRED provides: Multiple Strategies to promote student support/retention/ success/placement. • Application assistance • Counseling/mentoring support/crisis management • Employability skills/soft skills • Case management/tracking • Career Fairs • Placement Assistance • Retention Assistance

Pathways to Health Care Careers Model West Metro FASTTRAC grant • GED Preparation and Testing • GED/High School not needed for CNA but may be necessary for employment • Certified Nursing Assistant Certification Class held at Hennepin Technical College • 4 credits approx $650 - Fee paid by student • Integrated Instruction with ABE • Certified Nursing Assistant Preparation Class • Free class held at ABE sites • Certification Examination - held at Hennepin Technical College • Fee paid by student- approx $150 • Computer Basics and Fundamentals • Free classes held at ABE • Required for Health Unit Coordinator program • Recommended for and available to all ABE students • Medical Terminology Class • Free class held at ABE sites • 2 Credits earned for successful completion/transferable to Hennepin Technical College Health Unit Coordinator held at Hennepin Technical College - 17 credits-Fee paid by student -Undetermined Integrated Instruction with ABE Through out instruction and pre-employment HIRED will provide the following • Recruitment • Creating/distributing program marketing materials • Student assessment • Case management • Support services and connections to college and community resources • Individualized job search skills training • Job development • Job search assistance Additional Student Advising and College Connections provided by Next Step Funds Employment and/or Further Training Introduction to Health Care Careers Free class held at ABE sites

  6. Integrated Instruction • ABE / HTC – Instructors from ABE and HTC teach the classes. • Provides supportive environment for learning • Career development workshops incorporated and led by HIRED staff • ABE and HTC staff meet regularly to discuss teaching strategies. —moving us forward

Program outcomes • Bridge Classes • 328 students enrolled • 207 students completed; 66 in process of completing • Integrated Classes • 87 students enrolled • 51 students completed; 18 in process of completing • 32 students certified through the MN Nursing Assistant Registry; • 13 in process of certification testing • Other Results • 24 students obtained employment; Avg. Wage: $11.65 • 7 students continued their education • 81% of students scored below 56 on Accuplacer Reading; • 75% of those students successfully passed the integrated class.
