  1. Vocabulary Words Week of October 24, 2011

  2. Beside (preposition)(same as next to) • The cat is sitting beside the dog.

  3. Wide (adjective) • The measure of something from side to side. • The opposite of narrow. • This river is very wide .

  4. Length (noun)(how long something is) • 1. The length of the Nile is around 6650 kilometers (4132 miles). It is believed to be the longest river in the world.

  5. perhaps • Perhaps means the same as maybe. • Perhaps it will rain later today. Maybe I should take an umbrella.

  6. Edge (noun) • The border of something.

  7. Wild (adjective) This is a wild tiger. These are wild flowers.

  8. Drop (verb or noun) • Verb: to have something fall to the ground. Noun: a small amount of something. This is a drop of water.

  9. Main (adjective) • The most important or principal thing. • The main reason they came to the United States was to get a job.

  10. Developed (adjective) • Something that has advanced or matured. • A developed country is successful and the people have many opportunities .

  11. Divided (adjective or verb) • We divided the pizza into 6 pieces. The couple was very divided about where to go on vacation so they were arguing.

  12. Sum (noun) • The total when you add numbers together. The sum of 2 plus 3 equals 5.

  13. Race (verb or noun) Noun: There are people representing many races in the world. Verb: a competition of speed.

  14. Now go to Spelling City to practice using these new words.
