  3. Cornwall, situated in the South-west of the United Kingdom, is a privileged destination formanytourists. The heavenlybeaches, numerouscastles and coastalcities are the attractions of thisatypical place. It is a region full of diversitywhichpleasesall types of tourists. Indeed, the attractive seaside stations and beaches are a paradise for people who come to have a rest and have fun the whileplaces full of historyallow to broaden the knowledge of the mostcuriousholiday-makers.

  4. Useful information • Trip cost : about 310 Euros (=250£) per student. The food is not counted in the price. Students will choose their place of restoration in most of the cases. • Day of departure: Friday, 19th of April, 2013 • A bus will be at your disposal during all the trip (paid by the university) • Plan to bring along an adapter • Keep in mind that this trip is part of your university studies. On the basis of your visits and excursions ,we will ask you to make a presentation for all geography students of the university. The goal is to present the elements that reinforce Cornwish territorial attractiveness and development. So, we strongly recommend you to take notes as it will help you listen carefully and test your understanding. Climate : this 3 day trip will take place during spring season. The average temperatures will be between 15 and 20°. But the sky is cloudy with wet winds. Just make sure that you have the appropriate clothing !

Transport (by train and plane) • Flightfrom Paris (Roissy CDG) to Exeter (1 hour to the hotel in Plymouth) • Planned time of arrival in the hotel: 15:10 pm (local time).  136 euros/person (go/return) • Trainfrom Dijon (7:29 a.m) to Paris. • Arrivalat 10:30 am (Bercy station) • 42 euros per student(=33.8£) • Weshalltake the subway to go to the airport

  6. Four nights are booked in the Ibis Hotel of Plymouth (4 km away from the city centre) • The global price is 155 Euros (=125£) and includes : • - 4 nights in a double bed room. (about 77 euros /62£ per student) • - breakfast on the 4 mornings. • This is an affordable hotel which benefits from a strategic location to go to all the sites we plan visit.   7. DAY 1Plymouth : the port city Plymouth is a small port city of about 250 000 inhabitants. Plymouth attracts a lot of tourists thanks to the beauty of its beaches and wild moors. The harbour is considered as one of the most beautiful in the world. You can also visit the area withitsmany charming villages. The city centre, with its small shops and typical architecture, can be easily visited on foot. During the evening, the city becomes even more attractive.   8. MORNING • 10 a.m : The Hoe • The Hoe is a popular area for visitors. You can enjoy a relaxing moment thanks to luxuryseaviews • There is also a lot of activity including warshipmovements, trips on fishingtrawlers... • 12 a.m : Barbican, • The old harbour area of Plymouth. • The Barbican also contains a variety of shops and typical restaurants • You willappreciate the contrastbetweenmedieval and modern architecture.   9. Gin distillery • Located in a former monastery (1425). • Guided tour to provide overview of the history of the Distillery as well as an introduction to how Plymouth Gin is made. Free tasting ! • 7.40 Euros (=6£) AFTERNOON OR • 15 : 30 pm : National Marine Aquarium. • UK’s biggest aquarium • A relaxing environment and breathtaking views. • Wide variety of species. • Exhibitions on the marine world.   10. DAY 2Launceston and Dartmoor National Park • Launceston The town is a place to explore, with its Georgian houses, church, narrow granite lined streets and market square. Launceston Castle, built after the Norman Conquest, dominates the town (The castle protected the route into Cornwall). • Dartmoor is a historical site where reservoirs were built during the industrial era. You can also visit medieval houses. Furthermore, Dartmoor offers a wide variety of landscapes (forest, waterfalls, trails…). The site also proposes a lot of sport and cultural activities: trek, Treasure Trails, visit of BucklandAbbey (exhibitions, herb garden and craft workshops) and castle Drogo (The last castle to be built in England).   11. Launceston(1 hourfrom the park) • Visit of the city thatis now is an important market centre with many shops and businesses located in and around the Town Square. • Visit of the castle to discover the history and the heritage of Launceston. • 4 euros (=3.20£) MORNING AFTERNOON • Dartmoor National Park. (25 min from Plymouth). • Free time till 12:00 am

  12. DAY 3Coast of Pendeen : St-Ives, St-Michael’s Mount and Geevor • St-Ives is one of the most beautiful coastal city of the region. The place is renowned for its art with workshops, studios and galleries. The sea surrounds the town: a heavenly place which attracts a lot of visitors. • Saint-Michael’s-Mount is an island in the South-West of the United Kingdom . The castle that makes the island famous, has stunning panoramic views across Mounts Bay to Lands End and The Lizard. The place has also two chapels you can visit, a small harbour and picturesque houses. Access is on foot across the causeway at low tide, or by short ferry crossing at high tide. Don’t be surprised if the castle reminds you the Mont-Saint-Michel, in Normandy ! • The tin mine of Geevoris now a preserved mining site and museum. Is one of the largest preserved mine sites in the country. The site is located on the magnificent Pendeen coast. The place and available collections help you to better understand the story of Cornwall’s industrial mining past.

  13. MORNING Saint-Yves Visit of St-Ives (2 hours from Plymouth) From 10:30 am to 11:30 am Walk along the city Admire the Bay of St Ives. (Each beach has its own charm and appeal ! ). Visit the open-air theater.

  14. AFTERNOON • Tin mine of Geevor(10 minutes from Michael’s Mount) • 3 pm - 5 pm. • Visit of the galleries, exhibition on antiques and discovery of the extraction techniques of tin. • 12 Euros (=9.75£/student) • Michael’s Mount (20 minutes from St-Yves) • 12:00 am - 2:45 pm • Will set off to explore the island and visit the castle.

  15. Back in France • The return flight will be Tuesday23st of April at 11:25 am (local time). 1:55 pm arrival in Paris airport (French time) • Train (Bercy station) at 3:38 pm 7:15 pm arrival in Dijon (University)  32.10 Euros per student (=25.8£)
