Timeline • 1928: Elie Wiesel is born on September, 30. • 1933: Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany. • 1935: Nuremberg Race Laws against the Jews. • 1938: Kristallnacht: Government-organized pogrom against the Jews (Germany, Austria, parts of Czechoslovakia). • 1940: Romania ceded Northern Transylvania (includes Sighet) to Hungary.
Timeline, continued. • 1941: Japan attacks Pearl Harbor. • 1942: Wannsee Conference- All state, Nazi, and SS Agencies are on board with the “Final Solution”. • 1944: Germany occupies Hungary. Elie Wiesel and his family are deported to Auschwitz. • 1945: Soviet Troops liberate Auschwitz on January 27th. • Elie and his father were transferred to Buchenwald days before. • Buchenwald is liberated in April 1945.
