OBJECTIVES • Understand the three work groups and how to manage them effectively.
It’s a Work Group When……… • Group members are wearing their function/personal interests. • Example: Board of Directors of a large physician practice group.
Structuring Work Groups: • Size and composition depends on business objectives. • If you can’t find a reason to exclude, then include.
Specific Goals and All Group Members Accept Accountability: we succeed or fail together.
Board Members Paid Individually for Meetings are Not a Team vs. Paid in Shares.
“Citizenship” is Honored: sacrifice individual (function) interests for the Team.
Growth Without Destruction of Greatness Teams keep flame of insurgency glowing while…. • Core organization able to focus on growth, consistency of operations, and managing to Key Performance Indicators. • Example: XYX Law Firm KPI=Law Firm Profitability per Partner. • Example: ABC Resorts KPI=Room Occupancy Percentage.

Brown Bag Lunch Rules: • What’s said in the room stays in the room. • We meet once a month. • Be prepared to bring desert to share. • Management NOT invited to attend.
Managing Fikas • Explicit focus on something everybody can relate to: food. • Consistency. • Move to sharing of deserts if possible. • No agenda. • No management. • Be strategic about Fika composition
Fika Dilemmas • Only for W-2 and exclude 1099? • What about Fika for those working in regional offices? • What about Fika for those working out of home?
