SMALLEST DESCRIPTION • Bring renewable energy technology to the smallest communities in the most remote rural areas that are otherwise not able to access it • Help them to achieve a commercially sustainable self-dependence in energy • Create enterprise and jobs in the community • SMALLEST is pioneering a model for stimulating this process across the Northern Periphery of Europe

SMALLEST SERVICE • Work with the appropriate renewable energy National Advisory Service to initiate community interest in micro renewable energy generation solutions • Teach the community to understand the technologies and business modelling process for each technology – educating the market. • Introduce the NAS and help each community understand the NAS ‘tool kit’ • Work with the community alongside the NAS to assist with identifying and facilitating appropriate micro-renewable energy solutions. • Develop appropriate community management/ownership model • Develop the training programmes for development of professional skills amongst architects, surveyors and engineers to design effective MRES solutions for communities to assist the management and maintenance of MRES • Develop the training programmes for plumbers, electricians and other trades for the development of practical skills to install and maintain effective MRES • Facilitate networking and partnerships between communities.

SMALLEST OUTCOMES • SMALLEST has been designated a strategic project by the NPP • It hopes for policy engagement and policy change at a regional, national and transnational level • A proven model for future adoption showing how to embed renewable energy in the smallest rural communities throughout the region • A contribution to a carbon-free, self-sustaining rural economy for the long-term
