What does It Look Like at a State Level? • State Leadership: • Governor’s Office • Governor Perdue was Co-Chair of Common Core Standards Initiative • Key role as champion and communicator • State Leadership: • Governor’s Policy Director • State Superintendent • Chancellor, USG • Commissioner, TCSG • Commissioner, Student Finance • Executive Secretary, PSC • Commissioner, Early Learning

Implications and Issues – Part 1 • Need to be realistic • Holds potential to decrease time to degree and raise graduation rates • Risks underestimating the work • Risks misleading students and their families about widening gap • Need for understanding and buy in for implementation • Recognition that HS seniors could meet ELA & Math standards and not be college ready. Other key factors of pre-collegiate study include: Science, History, Cultures, Language and the Arts.
