Matthew Antario D. Mechanical Engineering: The Code
The different languages used through a specific field. In mechanical engineering a lot of technical terms may be used therefore they may use many different acronyms and abbreviations. ASME-American society of mechanical engineers HVAC-Heated ventilation and air conditioning ME-Mechanical engineering ABE-air breathing machine MACO-major assembly checkout Jargon
The people that may read in write in this field are engineers, technicians, potential engineers, and professors. • The overall audience will include people who are somewhat interested in the field. There also may be individuals that have to read instructual guides written by engineering, to complete do it yourself projects like change the tire on a car. Audience
There many different associations connected to this field academically and professionally. • ACADEMIC • Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) PROFESSIONAL • American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) • SAE is also professional Academic and professional associations
The writing in the mechanical engineering field is very theoretical. There is a lot of math, calculations and research. In order to assume or conclude something the proper research must be done to back up whatever is being stated. Through writing there must be an report or proposal stating why or how you plan to prove why something is the way it is. This may be different from an mechanical engineer technician because they may not have to write as much, they are mostly hands on and may be required to only right up performance and evaluation reports. Conventions and exceptions of writing
The areas in this field consists of different academic disciplines. Examples include: HVAC-Using thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics , the develop and maintain things like refrigerator, air condition, and heat units Automotive-Using mechanical, electrical, and safety engineering to construct motorcycles, cars, vans, and trucks. Industrial-is concerned with the efficiency of the functioning of operating systems, such as manufacturing, supply, service, and transport. FluidMechanics-study the force of fluid motions All the disciples within this field writings are similar in text, every discipline will consist of technical writing, with plenty of calculations, drawings, cited research and numbers Sub disciplines
Reading Instruction manuals-You have read and follow instructions written by someone else before you can perform a duty on your own. ASTM standards- a collection of industry-leading standards and technical engineering information that cover all engineering disciplines. Cited Books, journals, and articles – text that is often used in the research part of engineer, generally used to support an idea or design Writing Performance reports- used to test products for error or success, without a written report stating what happened in a performance test there is no proof on to why a product should be released to the market or what needs to be improved. Instruction Manuals- new innovated methods are constantly created daily on how to go about simple and complex engineering task. Therefore manuals must be written in order to guide readers step by step. The different genres in the mechanical engineering field are centered around the products created or potential products. Everything is related in a way, proposals, performance reports, evaluations, instruction manuals etc. work together to help create the most effective product. Genres
The most common citation style in the mechanical engineering fields is Chicago Manuel of styles. Author of a book 1. The different literacies that contribute to the mechanical engineering field include: • Logical and Mathematic Literacy • Mechanical literacy • Interpersonal literacy Literacy's
In the interview with Alison Bradley the engineering librarian, we learned a lot of useful information. She demonstrated the ins and outs of mechanical engineering, she explained the important reading and writing used throughout the field. Things like conference proceedings, and scholarly journal are two key essentials. We learned that these are two types of organizations that bring different engineering teams together to share ideas on current topics in the world. Interview
