  3. Roux-en-Y is the most common type of gastric bypass surgery that is performed nowadays. What basically Roux-en-Y surgery does is limit the size of the stomach and hence, help by controlling the number of calories absorbed. This helps in long term weight loss. During the second stage, the new, smaller pouch is disconnected from the duodenum and connected to the jejunum. The duodenum is the upper portion of the small intestine while jejunum is the lower part.
