Certification Model Needs • Honeywell needs Industry/FAA/NASA to provide— • Functional Requirements • Advisory Circular or equivalent (RTCA standards) • Turbulence alert scoring method based on atmospheric truth • Weather models with atmospheric truth • Sigma-w (preferred) or EDR truth or method to derive • at 25 m grid spacing (one more file?) • Explanation of sub-grid merge process • Define/Justify acceptable aircraft model complexity • Algorithm to estimate weight per flight hour

Certification Methodology Dealing with a statistical phenomenon - NOT the same as Windshear (1) Turbulence Events/ Scenarios— Weather Models and Path (2) Radar Simulation (3) Radar Algorithm HW requests either atmospheric truth, i.e. EDR or Sigma-w for sub-grids OR agreed upon process for transformation of 3D wind fields into sigma-w Built into the definition of the icon/alert employed by HW (4) Aircraft Specific Test Criteria (6) Comparative Analysis & Statistics (5) Aircraft “Truth” Fields Truth reference is critical. Prefer truth based on what Radar can measure in the atmosphere, not including noise from aircraft response model. Path definition ?

  8. Plan for NASA Deliverables - ADWRS 5.0 • Honeywell will use a validated tool to support analysis/certification • Options • Use clutter/Wx integration program (based on ADWRS 3.0) • Use ADWRS 5.0 as baseline • will it be validated? • Use internal HW high fidelity radar simulation tool

Plan for NASA Deliverables - FD Study • Very interested • Honeywell intends to evaluate and incorporate the findings into turbulence alerting system for revenue STC • Our initial demo will have what we think the best alerting scheme should be • Initial revenue data collection will not have alerting active (SW disabled)
