Using Online Periodical Databases Find magazine and other journal articles and easily cite references using built-in citation tools!
Where can you find a good periodical database? • Go to the Talbot County Free Library database link: http://www.tcfl.org/databases • Click link on right: “Newspapers and Magazines” • Click bottom link: “ProQuest Research Library”
You will have to type in a valid Maryland library ID number (on your library card) • Click “GO” button • The ProQuest window will come up. • Type the topic that you would like to research into the search box. • Click the box marked “Full text” for entire articles. • You may also limit the search to specific time periods by entering information into the “Date Range” field.
A list of articles will come up. • You can read or print entire articles by clicking “Full Text” or “Full Text + Graphics”. • You can view articles as they originally appeared with photos and illustrations by clicking “Full Text - PDF”.
HOW TO CITE SOURCES with ProQuest Research Library • When you view the article, on the top of the page there will be a link marked Cite this • If you click on this link, a window will come up. • You can change the format of the citation to MLA by using the drop-down menu next to “Change citation style” (select MLA). • Copy and paste the citation onto your bibliography page. • It is that easy!
