Online Databases. How to use them. Go to the UCOL library website Click on the On-line Resources tab then Databases. UCOL has many different databases for you to access . Scroll down until you find EBSCOHost Databases & click to open . It will ask you for your UCOL ID.

  1. Online Databases How to use them

  2. Go to the UCOL library website Click on the On-line Resources tabthen Databases

  3. UCOL has many different databases for you to access

  4. Scroll down until you find EBSCOHost Databases & click to open

  5. It will ask you for your UCOL ID

  6. Here it lists all of the databases you can search

  7. Click the box next to the following • Alt HealthWatch • CINAHL Plus with Full Text • Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition • MEDLINE As you can see there are many others, but these are really good resources for when you go onto Nursing/MIT/Vet Nursing next year.

  8. Scroll back to the top (or down to the bottom) & click Continue

  9. SearchingType your keyword into the search box, or click Advanced Search to help you narrow down the results

  10. From the Advanced Search Options we can narrow things down – you can search with multiple Keywords or Authors, Full Text, UCOL Serials Collection and Date

  11. Type in Wound Care, select All Text & click Search

  12. This searches for anything that has Wound Care in the title or the text • You will find there is are over 49,000 entries • Way too many to search through, so lets narrow it down a bit

  13. Click Full Text on the left hand side of the page – this will limit the searches to anything that has a full PDF available

  14. Now it is just over 21,000 results – lets make it even smaller by changing the publication date – as we want the most up to date information – slide the date to 2010

  15. Now there are just over 6,000 titles, probably a few too many still.

  16. Scroll your page down a little – we only want good quality sources, so tick Academic Journals

  17. Narrowing it down it even further you can define the Subject: Major Heading as Wound Care

  18. Personally I think that is much more manageable!

  19. Select a PDF to openFrom here you can read it, save it, email it & print it. To go back click Result List

  20. Now its your turn • Search for Type 2 diabetes AND elderly, both as All Text • Refine your search to UCOL Serials Collection • Refine your search to between 2007 & 2013 • How many results do you have? • In pairs pick another topic & try again.
