  1. Cakes- Cakes can be large or small, plain of fancy, light or rich. In ancient times, cakes were sometimes used in religious ceremonies. These were purposely fashioned into specific shapes, according to the occasion. Round shapes generally symbolize the cyclical nature of life. Most specifically, the sun and moon.

  2. Cupcakes- In the beginning, cupcakes were called "number" cakes, because they were easy to remember by the measurements of ingredients: One cup of butter, two cups of sugar, three cups of flour, four eggs, one cup of milk, and one spoonful of baking soda. The reason people started making cupcakes was because they were smaller and more convenient.

  3. Cookies- Each country has its own word for "cookie." What we know as cookies are called biscuits in England and Australia, in Spain they're galletas, and Germans call themkeks. The name cookie comes from the Dutch word koekje, meaning "small or little cake.”

  4. Breads- A bread is a usually baked and leavened food made of a mixture whose main ingredients are flour, yeast, salt, and water.

  5. Pies- The purpose of a pastry shell was mainly to serve as a baking dish, storage container, and serving vessel, and these are often too hard to actually eat. For hundreds of years, it was the only form of baking container used, meaning everything was a pie.
