  2. The First Pillar: Shahadah • The Declaration of Faith • “There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is his prophet, peace be unto him.” • Monotheism • Muslims say the shahadah regularly, its is usually whispered into babies’ ears over and over again.

  3. The Second Pillar: Salat • Daily Prayer • Muslims are called to pray 5 times daily • Muslims face the holy city of Mecca when they pray • Muslims prefer to pray in a mosque, but daily prayers can take place anywhere

  4. The Third Pillar: Zakat • Almsgiving (Charity) • Muslims must share their wealth with the poor • Helps fights against greed • Muslim should give at least 2.5% of their money • Money collected as charity is used to help build schools, hospitals, orphanages, and other community projects

The Fourth Pillar: Siyam • Fasting (No Eating) • Muslims fast—they don’t eat—for a month during Ramadan • Ramadan is the 9th month of the year on the Islamic Calender • Muslims believe Ramadan is the month Muhammad received his message in the cave. • Ramadan ends with a big party and a big feast

  6. The Fifth Pillar: Hajj • Journey to Mecca • Muslims from all over the world gather in Mecca • Muslims pray and worship for 5-7 days together in Mecca • Follow the footsteps of Abraham and Muhammad
