2. Belief-Shahada Muslims belief that there is only one god, Allah and his messenger, Muhammad. They have 99 names for Allah. Anyone who says these words and means it can become a Muslim.

3. Prayer - Salah Where do they pray Prayers can be said anywhere so long as it’s clean and quiet. On Fridays Muslims try to go to the Mosque for mid-day prayer. In many Muslim countries Friday is a holiday. Only a few shops are open and there only open at early morning and evening. Muslim woman usually pray at home but if they do go to the Mosque they sit at the back or in the gallery. Wudu Before praying Muslims must wash themselves. This washing is called Wudu. As they pray, they kneel, muslim kneel and bow to show they are humble. When to pray Muslims are supposed to pray five times a day, facing Mecca, where ever they are in the world. These times are: Fagr-morning, between dawn and sunrise, Zuhr-mid-day or early afternoon, Asr- late afternoon, Maghrib- evening, around sunset, Isah- night, before going to bed.

4. Zakat- giving to charity This is about looking after other people. Each Muslim gives up a share of his money each year to provide for those less fortunate. The word Zakat means to cleanse. As the person gives up a share his or her money they become cleansed from selfishness and greed. This money will be to provide education, keep up or build mosques or help the needy.

5. Pilgrimage – Hajj All muslims have a duty to try to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once during their lifetime. Very often the whole family saves up to send one person at a time. The men who make the pilgrimage wears a ihram which is made up of two sheets. They must not be sewn. Also wear special open shoes. This clothing is a symbol of peace and obedience to God. The pilgrimage follows a set pattern.

6. Saum – Fasting in Ramadam This is all about Ramadam. The ninth month of the Islam calendar. It’s special because it is when Muhammad (Pbuh) began receiving the message from God. For thirty days Muslim fast, they do not eat or drink during daylight hours. It starts when the new moon it seen again at the end of the month. The fast is to remind them how difficult it is to be poor, hungry and to live in a hot place. It reminds them to thank God for his gift of the Qur’an also serves to make them think about the luxuries of life so not to be greedy.
