  4. Why are we developing LibrarySearch? As a university, we have an inspiring and distinctive range and quality of resources that aid study and research for students and staff. These collections include not just the physical books and journals in the library but an expanding choice of e-books, e-journals and databases as well as our unique Special Collections. Currently our customers have to access these materials through a bewildering number of web pages and search facilities, none of which provide access to the full breadth and depth of the collections. We want to ensure that customers can discover, access and use all our resources in easily and intuitively, and have been working to provide a single search solution for our customers. We are launching LibrarySearch - an online resource discovery system that reveals more of Kent’s library resources than ever before. LibrarySearch will be the main gateway to our scholarly content from January 2015. LibrarySearch

  6. What does LibrarySearch offer the user? Easy and intuitive searching using the simple keyword search box. More relevant search results through advanced search options. More comprehensive resources presented than ever before. Helps users identify high quality and scholarly significance of results. A personalised experience through saved searches and an e-shelf. Timescale LibrarySearch projects P1104 Extended project to complete implementation by end of September 2014 Review by PMG October P1365 Project restart when P1104 completes Test programme with staff and students and will continue to seek improvements in user experience, based on feedback. Training and information for staff and students Launch January (date tbc) LibrarySearch’

What is happening now: • Acting on feedback • E-journals and print journals search on web page via SFX – older print journals coming • Investing technical development in LibrarySearch to produce a stable system • Account functionality, FLS testing: • Web forms included (store requests, inter-site loans etc.), • ‘recall’ available when logged in • Results and search functionality, ALS testing : • Journals ‘Issues held’ information included in ‘Description’ • ‘Library’ and ‘collections’ facets improved LibrarySearch

  11. Training and information for staff and students There will be online training guides available for the launch in January 2015, plus a supporting film and information. Briefing sessions for IS staff: monthly 1st Wed/Thurs Training for IS Library Collections and FLS staff November Include demo for Support Desk staff September Schools will be shown how to use LibrarySearch through their Academic Liaison Librarian team and student workshops will be run during Spring term 2015 Students 2nd induction Spring term LibrarySearch
