The incumbent must be capable of multi-tasking many deadlines and have a proven track record to solve problems. The Analyst would contribute to the delivery of meaningful, timely, well-controlled financial reporting and analysis that is responsive to the changing business. • This position provides an excellent opportunity to broaden the incumbent’s knowledge of CTR’s many divisions and provide exposure to several areas of Finance. It also provides the opportunity to develop a number of key competencies including, but not limited to, communication skills, interpersonal skills, and an action-oriented, planning and analytical approach. ANALYST CANADIAN TIRE RETAIL (CTR) REPORTING Toronto, Ontario – Summer 2009 Co-op Opportunity • RESPONSIBILITIES: • The Analyst may have the opportunity to work on any of the following: • 1. Accounting/Financial Analysis: To develop an understanding of the Corporate financial environment and comprehend fiduciary financial management. • Review of transactions to determine if they are consistent with CTR’s accounting policies, the application of the Dealer Contract, and CTR’s internal controls for CEO/CFO certification. • Preparation and review of various standard month end and ad hoc financial entries and reports as requested by management. Financial reporting includes computation of the margin split and a full understanding of the related cost sharing arrangements. • Review of financial results and preparation of financial forecasts for Net Margin, Sundry Income, Advertising, and Inventory. • 2. Process and Operations Planning Analysis: To develop an ability to review policies, procedures and operations to improve efficiencies and reduce costs while aligning recommendations to corporate strategies. • Review of Cycle Counting process and controls being tested and implemented at the DC’s in conjunction with DC Operations and Internal and External Auditors. • Automation of month end processes in PeopleSoft. The improved efficiency of our complex month end reporting is a major deliverable of the department. • 3. Business Decision Support Analysis: To develop an ability to support strategic business decisions and measure strategy by utilizing analytical tools and working as a partner with key business groups. • Review of transactions brought forward by the business as it relates to maximizing Net Margin and conformance to the Dealer Contract. Transactions can be initiated by Marketing, Supply Chain or Vendor Support. • Preparation of presentation decks customized for target client groups of Merchandise Accounting. Determining the key messages to be communicated by Merchandise Accounting related to the application of the Dealer Contract and basic accounting principles. • 4. ANALYST CANADIAN TIRE RETAIL (CTR) REPORTING Toronto, Ontario – Summer 2009 Co-op Opportunity • REQUIREMENTS: • Must have: • Working towards a university degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance • Experience with Excel • Proven analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving abilities • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to succeed in a multi-task and dynamic environment • Accountable, dedicated and self motivated • Positive attitude and excellent work ethic • Strong organizational abilities • Nice to have: • Experience with Access, IW, PeopleSoft, DCCS, AOM, IMS, PowerPoint, Visio • The duties and responsibilities outlined above are representative, but not all-inclusive.
