Welcome! • As a SAFA member you will.. • Have access to recruiters from 16 different companies including those in finance, accounting, consulting, and supply chain. • Have access to professional networking events with those who will be hiring you in a couple years (hint hint) • Have opportunities to make a difference in the community through our 5K and charity dinner • Strengthen your communication, networking, and interpersonal skills • Have the opportunity for professional advancement through the SAFA exec board • Become immersed in business topics that come straight from those who will be hiring you in a few years (hint hint) • Obviously get free food and a custom SAFA padfolio (great for interviews)

What do I recommend? • Why should you really join SAFA? • Even as a freshman its important to begin thinking about your future, and building relationships with recruiters and companies can do nothing but help you along • It will prepare you for the interactions you will have when you attend the Carlson career fairs! • It will help you as you begin to search for a major! • I came in as finance, and somehow SAFA also introduced me to Supply Chain, funny how things happens • Its easy to come in to school thinking you know what you want, but learning what you will actually be doing in different careers can help you decide! • Food every Thursday, you can’t beat that

  4. How to become a member? • Write your name and email on the meeting sign in sheet, or contact Christian at kerrx145@umn.edu or Michael at deara004@umn.edu • Then pay the $15 semester fee or $20 year fee. • Come to meetings!

Brand new scholarship opportunity for Accounting majors • 2014 Becker Scholarship • This year we are awarding up to 6 scholarships to members who show true commitment to SAFA • This is done through • Attendance to 1 of the 2 kick offs • Attendance to 1 of the 2 charity events • Attendance to 13 of the 16 weekly events • If you need to miss an event, provide a legitimate excuse such as class or exams and it will not effect your attendance. • Write a short essay pertaining to a prompt chosen by the exec board • What is the scholarship? • A 50% off credit for the CPA exam provided by Becker • $1,600 value

Freshmen/Sophomore Rep • Freshmen and sophomores have the chance to apply for the rep position • Number of positions is to be decided • The freshmen/sophomore reps will act as fill in exec board members and attend board meetings and help with board actions and activities • What’s the idea? • The idea is that by the end of the year you will have an idea of how to run the group, and with a little help you will run for the board and replace this year’s executives • Highly recommended! • Why? • Great experience early in your career • Can lead to a board position which in itself is a great career and resume booster

Additional opportunities • Apply to become a Veritas Prep Brand Ambassador • The AroundCampus Group, the leading campus media and marketing company in the U.S., is offering a yearlong paid part-time position to college students. As a Brand Ambassador you will work to grow the brand on campus by: • Consulting with The AroundCampus Group on marketing strategy and participate in developing a marketing plan and time-line for the brand you’ll represent • If you are interested reach out to Christian at kerrx145@umn.edu • It’s PAID

  9. Echo Spot • https://www.theechospot.com/echos/211 • Echo Spot is a website where University students can share useful information and college tips. They recently released The Echo Spot mobile app to make the site more user friendly and better connect University members to each other. • Basically a blog for Carlson students to post relevant questions and concerns for other students and faculty to advise • Pres. Kaler actually uses the blog as well

  10. PwC Boat Cruise! • Join PricewaterhouseCoopers for a Boat Cruise on the Mississippi River! This will be a fun, informative event and a great chance to learn more about career opportunities within public accounting and PwC!This event is geared towards all class levels who are interested or have declared a major in either Accounting or MIS and are seeking a job opportunity. This will be a fun way to socialize with PwC professionals, learn more about the firm and enjoy the beautiful sights of the Mississippi River! FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED!DetailsDate: Tuesday, September 23Time: 6:00-9:00PM Location: 2150 West River Parkway (Bohemian Flats). This is located right down the road from Carlson - you can bike, walk or drive there! If interested, please RSVP by sending an email with your name and class level to Katie Doerer (katie.a.doerer@us.pwc.com) by Friday, September 19. Space for this event is limited, so to secure a spot please RSVP as soon as possible.

  11. Honeywell! • HONEYWELL - NEW SAFA SPONSER ON CAMPUS FALL 2014 • Honeywell representatives will be on campus this fall recruiting for their Finance Development Leadership Program. Join Other Top Students & Graduates in Honeywell’s Outstanding Development Program! • Friday Sept 12th 4:30-6:30pm – Meet Honeywell Finance and Accounting professionals at the SAFA kick-off event! • Monday Sept 15th 10am-3pm – Visit the Honeywell booth at the Carlson Undergraduate Career Fair • Tuesday Sept 16th 5-7pm – Come to the Honeywell Finance and Accounting Info Session, Hansen Hall Room 2-245 to learn more about the company and open positions available.   12. Honeywell Cont. • SOPHOMORES -  Summer Leadership Program (SLP) interviews on campus this spring. The SLP is a four part event series designed to introduce students to Honeywell, network with Honeywell employees and leaders, and provides early interview opportunity for the internship program. Open for students with expected graduation dates of Dec 2016 or May 2017. • JUNIORS – Internship interviews on campus this fall open to students with expected graduation dates of Dec 2015 or May 2016. Honeywell’s internships mirror full-time roles and allow opportunities to make real impacts on the business. High conversion rate of interns into full-time hires the following year! • SENIORS – Full-time position interviews on campus this fall open to students with expected graduation dates of Dec 2014 or May 2015. Be a part of Honeywell’s Rotational Finance Development Leadership Program. A top-notch experience at a Fortune 100 company!

  13. 2014 SAFA Ronald McDonald House 5K • Sunday October 5th • Northrop Plaza • 11:30a sign-in • Noon start • Register via https://give.rmhc-um.org/SAFA • $15 for non SAFA members - $5 for SAFA member (see Christian or April for reimbursement) • Online registration closes September 29nd (Will accept runners day of) • A requirement for the scholarship • Not an exclusive SAFA event, all students may attend, so invite friends! • Free food and drinks at finish line! • Proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House!!
