  2. Target marketing is the development and promotion of products that appeal to a specific market segment. There are a number of ways the market can be split into segments. The most common ways are by; age, gender, social group, lifestyle, ethnicity or occasion.

  3. Who do you think is the target market for the Alton Towers Resort? There are two key groups: • Families • Thrill Seekers (16 to 24 year old adults)

  5. Attracting more families: 2006 – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Ride 2007 – Dung Heap 2008 – Battle Galleons 2009 – Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE

  6. Alton Towers also uses promotional material to attract the two target markets. Who is this radio commercial aimed at? Who is this television advert aimed at?

  7. Can you design a new radio commercial? Design a radio commercial for the park. Think carefully about the language to use to attract your target market. What sort of music would you use? Which rides or attractions would you include? Produce a detailed script for the commercial. • Alton Towers wants to attract more teenagers to the park. • What do you think would appeal to them? • Which rides or attractions would they be interested in?
