How do I apply for emergency certification? • Educational Interpreter should submit to their supervisor • documentation of their performance assessment • academic credentials • Superintendent of the program/district where the interpreter is employed will apply to the county superintendent for emergency certification.

12. Who should Apply for Emergency Certification? • All educational interpreters who provide the related service of interpreting for students • Grades Preschool through Grade 12 • Regular education programs • Extracurricular activities programs (e.g. sports, clubs) • Other related services (e.g. O.T., P.T. School counseling) • Other assignments as per the student’s IEP or 504 plan

Teachers of the Deaf Does a teacher of the deaf assigned to teach in a self contained class program need the educational interpreter certification? • NO! • However, if a teacher of the deaf is interpreting in a regular education program as part of their assignment, then he/she should possess certification as an educational interpreter.

14. When should I apply for emergency certification? • Educational interpreters should submit their credentials to their supervisors in August 2005. • The superintendents may apply to the county superintendent in August 2005.

15. How long may an educational interpreter work with an emergency certificate? • An emergency certificate • is issued for one school year. • may be renewed twice
