  10. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Friends in Christ: let us confess our sins to God our Father and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus to forgive us.

  11. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: We confess that we are born in bondage to sinand cannot free ourselves.We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,by what we have doneand by what we have failed to do.

  12. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION C: We have not loved you with our whole heart,and we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves.We deserve your eternal punishment.For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us. Amen.

  13. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: I ask each of you in the presence of God who searches the heart: Do you confess that you have sinned, and do you repent of your sins? C: I do.

  14. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you believe that Jesus Christ has redeemed you from all your sins, and do you desire forgiveness in his name? C: I do.

  15. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Do you intend with the help of the Holy Spirit to live as in God’s presence, and to strive daily to lead a holy life, even as Christ has made you holy? C: I do.

  16. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: As a called and ordained servant of the word, I announce the grace of God to all of you. On behalf of my Lord Jesus Christ, and by his command, I forgive the sins of all of you who repent and believe, in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen.

  23. PRAYER OF THE DAY M: Let us pray for Christ's light to shine on us. C: Thank you, Jesus, for coming as the light for the world. Shine into our darkness, so that we see God's love, and follow in the way you show us.

  24. PRAYER OF THE DAY For you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  25. FIRST READING R: The first reading for the third Sunday after Epiphany is written in Chapter nine of Isaiah beginning at verse one. Isaiah 9:1-4 CEV People who have lived in darkness have seen a great light.

  26. Isaiah 9:1-4 The territories of Zebulun and Naphtali in Galilee were once hated. But this land of the Gentiles across the Jordan River and along the Mediterranean Sea will be greatly respected.

  27. Isaiah 9:1-4 2Those who walked in the dark have seen a bright light, and it shines upon everyone who lives in the land of darkest shadows. 3Our LORD, you have made your nation stronger.

  28. Isaiah 9:1-4 Because of you, its people are glad and celebrate like workers at harvest time or like soldiers dividing up what they have taken. 4You have broken the power of those who abused and enslaved your people.

  29. Isaiah 9:1-4 You have rescued them just as you saved your people from Midian. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  30. Psalm 27:1,4-9 CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 27. 1YouLORD, are the light that keeps me safe. I am not afraid of anyone. You protect me, and I have no fears. C: 4I ask only one thing, LORD: Let me live in your house every day of my life to see how wonderful you are and to pray in your temple.

  31. Psalm 27:1,4-9 CEV R: 5In times of trouble, you will protect me. You will hide me in your tent and keep me safe on top of a mighty rock. C: 6You will let me defeat all of my enemies. Then I will celebrate, as I enter your tent with animal sacrifices and songs of praise.

  32. Psalm 27:1,4-9 CEV R: 7Please listen when I pray! Have pity. Answer my prayer. C:8My heart tells me to pray. I am eager to see your face,

  33. Psalm 27:1,4-9 CEV R: 9so don't hide from me. I am your servant, and you have helped me. Don't turn from me in anger. You alone keep me safe. Don't reject or desert me. C: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.

  34. Second READING R: The second reading is written in Chapter one of First Corinthians beginning at verse ten. 1 Corinthians 1:10-18CEV An appeal to avoid factions

  35. 1 Corinthians 1:10-18 10My dear friends, as a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, I beg you to get along with each other. Don't take sides. Always try to agree in what you think. 11Several people from Chloe's family have already reported to me that you keep arguing with each other.

  36. 1 Corinthians 1:10-18 12They have said that some of you claim to follow me, while others claim to follow Apollos or Peter or Christ. 13Has Christ been divided up? Was I nailed to a cross for you? Were you baptized in my name?  

  37. 1 Corinthians 1:10-18 14I thank God that I didn't baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius. 15Not one of you can say that you were baptized in my name. 16I did baptize the family of Stephanas, but I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.

  38. 1 Corinthians 1:10-18 17Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to tell the good news without using big words that would make the cross of Christ lose its power.

  39. 1 Corinthians 1:10-18 18The message about the cross doesn't make any sense to lost people. But for those of us who are being saved, it is God's power at work. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  40. GOSPEL M: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter four of the Gospel according to St Matthew beginning at verse twelve. C: Glory to You, O Lord.

  41. Matthew 4:12-23 12When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he went to Galilee. 13But instead of staying in Nazareth, Jesus moved to Capernaum. This town was beside Lake Galilee in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali.

  42. Matthew 4:12-23 14So God's promise came true, just as the prophet Isaiah had said, 15"Listen, lands of Zebulun and Naphtali, lands along the road to the sea and east of the Jordan! Listen Galilee, land of the Gentiles!

  43. Matthew 4:12-23 16Although your people live in darkness, they will see a bright light. Although they live in the shadow of death, a light will shine on them.” 17Then Jesus started preaching, "Turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven will soon be here.”

  44. Matthew 4:12-23 18While Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers. One was Simon, also known as Peter, and the other was Andrew. They were fishermen, and they were casting their net into the lake.

  45. Matthew 4:12-23 19Jesus said to them, "Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish." 20Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.

  46. Matthew 4:12-23 21Jesus walked on until he saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father, mending their nets. Jesus asked them to come with him too. 22Right away they left the boat and their father and went with Jesus

  47. Matthew 4:12-23 23Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the Jewish meeting places and preaching the good news about God's kingdom. He also healed every kind of disease and sickness. This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You O Christ.
